Or at least how I managed to
I can trace my first memories striving for perfection back when I was attending the second grade at primary school. I remember the class being tested in an extremely comprehensive hour-long test. I was feeling prepared and ready to tackle it as per usual. At the end of the day, the teacher asks me to come to her desk to check with me my results. “Well, you could have scored ‘Excellent’, but because you did this spelling error I’m gonna give you a ‘Bravo’. For the future, you should pay attention to every detail before handing in your test”.
To my 7-year-old self, this was so unfair and shameful. It equalled with disappointment. How stupid was I to let that minor mistake ruin my perfect score! So much studying and preparation for a spelling error to prevent me from “Excellent”? I had to change the way I studied. I had to study deeper and revise even more. I wouldn’t allow it to happen ever again. I would never disappoint my teacher, whom I admired so, ever again. I would never provide less than was expected. That’s when I first remember saying: “I wanna be perfect”. Which effectively meant give my absolute concentration and infallible performance.

I’m not a big fan of New Year’s Resolutions. I end up flunking them by the second week of January. Tops. Yet, after some considerable lack of inspiration and energy, I decided it was time to shake things up. After a long hiatus, I wanted to shake things off by posting a playlist with the songs that have been the soundtrack of my summer so far. Summer is all about chilling out and restoring one’s energy and for me specifically, it has to involve two basic ingredients: a beach and good music.
So, let your hair down for a little bit more and remember: it’s still summer! And even when it’s not, you can always bring those summer vibes back to life when listening to your favourite tunes! Continue reading ‘Summer on My Mind’: A Summer Playlist
2016 was a year of mixed impressions for me. It either swirled me sky high or dropped me abruptly to the bottom. I am not disappointed, though. I am rather fulfilled. In 2016, I managed to make my crazy big dreams, rooted in my teenage years, come true. Living this experience made me feel the thrill of having some things being realized the way Ι have imagined them to be. However, I also managed to obtain a clear and pragmatic view of some other things that I had sugarcoated and thought uncomplicated. There is a certain heartbreak lingering in such cases, but it’s better to be wiser than deceive yourself. This year, I managed to step wayyyy out of my comfort zone and gradually make -right out there- a new one, I walked one step closer to the much-feared burden of adulthood, and I learned a lot about life, people, and ideas.
On that note, here’s what stuck with me this year: Continue reading 2016’s Favourites
